Calculations run entirely in your browser – the sizes and weights you type are never sent to a server.
UPS dimensional weight rules
UPS Daily Rates (domestic & international)
| Formula | L × W × H (in) ÷ 139 = lb |
|---|---|
| Rounding | Each side rounded up to a whole inch (min 1 in); dimensional and actual weight rounded up to the next whole lb. |
| Applies to | Dimensional weight “may apply to all UPS domestic and international package services”; billable weight = greater of actual and dimensional weight. |
| Effective | 2026 Daily Rates guide marked “Updated September 7, 2026”; the date the guide took effect could not be verified. |
- UPS pages disagree: U1 says “round up … 1.01 to 1.99 will be rounded up to 2” but also “rounding each measurement to the nearest whole number”; the 2026 Daily Rates guide says “1.1 will be considered 2”. Default: round up (research notes 1.2 #1). You can switch to nearest.

UPS Retail Rates – domestic
| Formula | L × W × H (in) ÷ 166 = lb |
|---|---|

| Applies to | Retail (counter / list) rates for US domestic packages. |
| Effective | Not verified. |
- U1: “139 for Daily Rates; 166 for Retail Rates”.

Rounding conflict: UPS pages give two different wordings (round up vs nearest whole number). The calculator uses round up by default and lets you switch. Metric: a UPS ÷5,000 cm/kg rule was only seen in a search snippet of the UPS Jamaica guide (UPS Jamaica Rate and Service Guide (search snippet only, not the US guide; no direct link verified)), so it is not a preset – cm/kg input is converted to inches and pounds. Use the Custom divisor option if your UPS account bills in cm/kg.
Worked example
- Box 15.1 × 10 × 6 in, 3 lb, UPS Daily Rates. Each side rounds up: 16 × 10 × 6 in = 960 in³.
- 960 ÷ 139 = 6.91 lb → rounded up to 7 lb.
- Billable weight: 7 lb (dimensional weight is higher than 3 lb).
- Same box at Retail Rates (÷166): 5.78 → 6 lb.
- With “nearest inch” rounding instead: 15 × 10 × 6 = 900 in³ → 7 lb.
FAQ
What is the UPS dimensional weight divisor?
UPS uses 139 for Daily Rates and 166 for Retail Rates (domestic). Retail export uses 139.
Does UPS round dimensions up?
The 2026 UPS Daily Rates guide says each measurement is rounded up to the next whole inch (1.1 counts as 2), but another UPS page also says “nearest whole number”. This calculator rounds up by default and lets you switch.
Does UPS round the dimensional weight?
Yes. Dimensional weight is rounded up to the next whole pound, and billable weight is the larger of that and the actual weight.
Does dimensional weight apply to every UPS package?
UPS says dimensional weight may apply to all UPS domestic and international package services.
